It has been the, policy of this laboratory to request that blood samples for inorganic phosphate analysis be collected in potassium oxalatesodium fluoride anticoagulant but the origin of this recommendation is obscure. The recommendation is presumed to be based on the premise that fluoride ion inhibits a wide range of enzymes that hydrolyse phosphate esters and release phosphate ions.
