Malignant hyperthermia is a rare and usually fatal complication of general anaesthesia. It occurs in man (Britt and Kalow, Citation1970) and in certain breeds of pigs, the, Landrace (Hall et al., Citation1966; Berman et at, Citation1970; Harrison et al., Citation1970) the Poland China (Jones et al., Citation1972), the Pietrain (Allen et al., Citation1970) and the Large White (Mawdesley-Thomas, Citation1969).
