Pages 70-72 | Published online: 23 Feb 2011

Abstract

A 12-year-old spayed female cat was presented because it was losing body weight despite eating and drinking well. The cat was passing excessive amounts of pale soft faeces. Clinical examination suggested, and serum thyroxine levels of 500 nmol/1 confirmed, that the cat was hyperthyroid. In addition there was evidence of both liver and renal disease. Post-mortem examination revealed bilateral thyroid adenomas, hepatic atrophy and telangiectasis, mild chronic nephritis and mild systemic amyloidosis.
