Abstract
Deaths of sheep three to four weeks after lambing were investigated in a flock of 2500 mixed age Perendale ewes. From the history and clinical signs a diagnosis of hypomagnesaemic tetany was made. This was confirmed by the successful treatment of an affected ewe and from estimations of serum magnesium levels of other ewes in the flock.
The difficulties of prevention and control of hypomagnesaemic tetany in sheep are discussed.
