The paper by Watts et al. published in the New Zealand Veterinary Journal doi: 10.1080/00480169.2015.1064792, entitled “Theileria orientalis: a review”, contained an error in the section entitled “Vectors of T. orientalis in Australia” (page 4). In the paragraph commencing “In Japan, H. longicornis is considered to be the main biological vector”, an incorrect reference was cited. The correct sentence should read:
“In Japan, H. longicornis is considered to be the main biological vector of T. orientalis, but it is also transmitted mechanically by sucking lice (Fujisaki et al. 1993) and tabanid flies (Tabanidae; Takahashi et al. 1983).”
The reference list should include the following reference:
Takahashi K, Wada A, Kawai S, Yokota H, Kurosawa T, Sonoda M. Investigations of isolation, transmission and virulence of bovine Babesia sp. in Hokkaido. Journal of the College of Dairying 10, 171–81, 1983.
