1 In this essay, I use the pronouns they/them to refer to plants in both the singular and the plural. This choice reflects plants’ existential plurality and often complex gender presentation; it also marks the need to move away from the objectifying “it” (see CitationKimmerer), for which reason I also use the relative pronoun “who” instead of “that.”
