Preventing Ocular Injuries

Abstract

The orthoptist has a large potential role in the prevention of eye injuries. Orthoptists see many children—many effectively one-eyed because of dense amblyopia. Eye protection is essential for all such patients. The proper protective device depends upon the type of activities. Orthoptists should be aware of the devices available, their indications and actively recommend the use of appropriate protective devices where indicated.
