Abstract
Twenty-five patients with vertical strabismus were treated with thirty-three injections of botulinum toxin. In Graves disease an average of sixty-two percent of the pre-treatment deviation was corrected. For patients without Graves disease an average of seventy-six percent of the vertical strabismus was corrected Side effects were trivial. Botulinum toxin can be used to treat vertical strabismus alone, or combined vertical and horizontal strabismus. It offers a unique opportunity to treat strabismus of Graves disease in the active stage when incisional surgery is contraindicated.
