Abstract
Involvement of the ocular motor system occurs in approximately 5% of head injuries. In this article we review the common findings. Third, fourth and sixth nerve palsies, nuclear and supranuclear lesions, muscle entrapment, and breakdown of a preexisting heterophoria are possible. Diagnosis is usually not difficult. The prognosis for recovery is generally good. Surgical correction of an ocular deviation should be delayed for at least six months after the injury although botulinum injection could be considered earlier.
