Abstract
Reductions in myopic refraction have been observed during atropine treatment of school age myopes. To determine if this is the true decrease in myopia or simply more profound cycloplegia from chronic atropine, 17 patients with school age myopia had cycloplegic refractions first with 1% cyclopentolate, 2 drops O.U., then again with 1% atropine ointment, three times a day for 3 days. For the group, the mean difference in refraction was 0.147 diopters less myopia under atropine than under cyclopentolate cycloplegia.
