Abstract
Because of the recent emergence of cases of intractable diplopia following cataract surgery with I.O.L., there appears to be a need for a pre-operative test to assess patients for fusion potential. In an attempt to devise a suitable test, a number of modifications were made in the usual Orthoptic instrumentation and examination routine, for a group of 60 patients booked for cataract surgery with I.O.L. On post-operative follow-up, significant diplopia was present in three patients. Post-operative test results were compared with pre-operative Orthoptic findings, to determine if the earlier measurements had any predictive value.
