Abstract
The prism adaptation test (PAT) was used to neutralize the deviation of 47 exotropic patients and surgery was performed according to these results. The results of surgery in this group were superior to the results of exotropia surgery generally reported in the literature and to our own results with exotropic patients operated according to the conventional prism cover test (PCT). The difference in results of surgery was especially highly significant in a subgroup of basic type exotropia.
The PAT seems to improve significantly the surgical results.
