Abstract
This paper urges inclusion of perceptual skills testing in an ophthalmic examination. A rationale is presented along with an explanation of the linkup between those basic aptitudes and school performance. This is followed by a description of two perceptual skills tests—one visual, the other auditory—which may be administered, easily and rapidly, by an office assistant. Finally, educational guidelines are defined to aid the clinician in reporting and interpreting test outcomes to parents/school.
