Abstract
A large number of cataract surgeries are done each year in the United States. Problems related to binocular function resulting from the presence of a dense cataract are not an uncommon occurrence. Decompensating heterophorias, changes in the angle of deviation and loss of central fusion may result from prolonged occlusion produced by the cataract. Anisometropia induced by the increase in myopia of the cataractous eye presents a barrier to fusion. Diplopia post cataract surgery may be caused by problems related to the lens implant or to surgical trauma.
