Abstract
Endoscopic sinus surgery is performed frequently for a myriad of common sinus disorders. However, the technique requires dexterity and thorough knowledge of orbital and sinus anatomy, and the learning curve may be steep, even for an otherwise experienced surgeon. Because of the proximity of the orbit to the sinuses, ocular complications are not infrequent. Oftentimes, the problems are minor, but devastating complications such as transection of the optic nerve or of an extraocular muscle have been reported. The purpose of the current paper is to present a complicated case of restrictive strabismus resulting from an inadvertent orbital entry at the time of sinus surgery, and to review the literature on reported ocular and strabismus complications of endoscopic sinus procedures.
