Ancient Gold Working at Aksum

Pages 27-40 | Published online: 29 Jul 2009

Abstract

Functional consideration of two of the more enigmatic types of Aksumite structures, together with a brief consideration of local place names and of some topographic features suggests that the lure of gold may have been a prime causative factor responsible for attracting diverse peoples to this particular area, and for sustaining the early growth of Aksum's internationally significant civilization.
