‘Ēzānā (Ēzana/Ēzanas) Some Numismatic Comments

Pages 109-119 | Published online: 26 Feb 2010

Summary

This article throws more light on the question of the identity of Ezana, the best-known ruler of Aksum. It arises from studies carried out in connection with Dr Munro-Hay's doctoral thesis, undertaken when he was a research student of the British Institute. He is now a lecturer at the University of Nairobi.

Ēzana, king of Aksum, has been several times expanded into two kings. The paper outlines numismatic reasons for identifying the various mentions of Ēzana, Ēzanas, etc. The conclusion reached is that there was one king.
