Abstract
A nature reserve has been planned for the southern edge of the Valley of 1 000 Hills in Natal. The animals which it is intended to re‐introduce are discussed. A management system intended to maintain the present plant communities is suggested. The veld is to be divided into seven units, each of which will be burnt initially on the rotation spring burn, protect, spring bum, protect, protect, autumn burn, protect.
This intention to accord the vegetation priority over the animals is emphasised.
