Abstract
CONSOLIDATION OF THE COW TOWER allowed access to all parts of the interior for a detailed drawn and photographic survey. Numerous details hitherto unrecorded were discovered, the most notable of which was that the tower is constructed of flint and faced in brick. An interpretation is offered for the unconventional chases and sockets between ground- and first-floor levels. The report is supplemented by the first thorough appraisal of the available documentation and there is an alternative view of the chases by T. P. Smith.4
