A directed tour of search‐theoretic explanations for unemployment

Pages 245-267 | Published online: 10 Nov 2009

Abstract

This paper presents a survey and evaluation of search‐theoretic models of unemployment. Four distinct categories of search models are identified and discussed: sequential sampling, equilibrium search, the matching function approach, and directed search. Each of these approaches are compared and contrasted, and the influence of each on current research directions is highlighted.
