The geographical distribution of Cerastoderma [cardium] edule (L.) and C. Lamarcki (Reeve) in the baltic and adjacent seas related to salinity and salinity fluctuations

Abstract

The distribution of Cerastoderma edule in the Baltic was studied and proved to be wider than previously recorded, extending into waters with salinities as low as 10-11 %D. The absence of the species in Danish fjords at salinities of 11-18 %D is discussed. New records of C. lamarcki on the open Skagerak coast and in the Danish Waddensea are presented and discussed.
