RIASSUNTO

L'autore ebbe occasione di esaminare gli esemplari tipo delle Begonia brasiliane di RADDI e ne dà qui la descrizione. Esse possono essere tutte quante mantenute come specie. Questa revisione ha permesso di mettere in chiaro le differenze tra B. digitata Raddi e B. luxurians Scheidw. che erano state per lungo tempo molto incerte. Inoltre l'autore ha cercato, in rapporto alla discussione di B. angularis Raddi, di separarne chiaramente questa specie da B. angulata Veli, e da B. pulchella Raddi che fino ad ora erano state considerate come specie molto incerte. Queste tre specie risultano assai variabili morfologicamente. La caratteristica struttura della foglia di B. angularis ci permette di distinguere facilmente questa specie dalle altre due. Mentre B. angularis è provvista di un ipoderma a larghe cellule soltanto nel lato superiore, questa si riscontra in B. angulata e B. pulchella anche dal lato inferiore. B. spinibarbis Irinsch. che è affine a B. bidentata Raddi viene descritta come una nuova specie. Parimente viene descritta nell'appendice una nuova specie, B. mollicaulis Irmsch., coltivata nei giardini europei da lungo tempo, che finora era stata confusa con la specie B. subvillosa Kl.

SUMMARY

The author had the opportunity to examine the type specimens of RADDIS Brazilian Begonias and gives descriptions. They can all be maintained as species. This revision allowed to clarify the differences between B. digitata Raddi and B. luxurians Scheidw. which have been very uncertain for a long time. Further the author tried, in connection with the discussion of B. angularis Raddi, to separate this species clearly from B. angulata Vell, and from B. pulchella Raddi that until now has been a very uncertain species. These three species proved to be morphologically variable. The deviating leaf structure of B. angularis allows to distinguish it safely from the two other species. While B. angularis is provided with a large-celled hypodermis on the upside only, this is found in B. angulata and B. pulchella on the underside as well. B. spinibarbis Irmsch. which is related to B. bidentata Raddi is described as a new species. Likewise, in the appendix a new species B. mollicaulis Irmsch. is described that has been cultivated in European gardens since long and that hitherto has been mistaken as a species called B. subvillosa Kl.
