SUMMARY

The Ethiopian species of PARKERIACEAE, ADIANTACEAE, and VITTAKIACEAE are seven, viz Ceratopteris thalictroides (L.) Ad. Brongn. (PARKERIACEAE). Adiantum balfourii Bäk., Adiantum philippense L., Adiantum incisum. Forssk., Adiantum capillus-veneris L., Adiantum thalictroides Willd. ex Schlecht. (ADIANTACEAE) and Vittoria volkensii Hieron. (VITTARIACEAE).

PARKERIACEAE, ADIANTACEAE, and VITTARIACEAE are recognized as independent families. Their distinctive characteristics are pointed out and their relationship with other families of ferns is discussed.

The research on the taxonomy and nomenclature of the species has given interesting results. The type of Ceratopteris thalictroides is the specimen mounted on sheet no. 42 of vol. 3 of HERMANN's herbarium (BM), while that of Ceratopteris siliquosa is mounted on sheet no. 59 of vol. 2 of the same herbarium. The former is the correct name for the species. The place of publication of Adiantum balfourii is established, and Adiantum martinii is confirmed as its synonym. Adiantum incisum is regarded as a species independent of Adiantum caudatum with which has hitherto been confused. Other species of the same group are studied. Adiantum, capillus-gorgonis is regarded as a synonym of Adiantum incisum; Adiantum hirsutum is considered as an independent species. Adiantum ciliatum. Adiantum zollingeri, Adiantum flagelliferum, and Adiantum proliferum are taken into consideration, but they require further study. The typification of Adiantum capillus-veneris is discussed, and the conclusion is reached that the type of this species is specimen 1252.9 of the Linnean herbarium in London. On the basis of the study of type material Adiantum thalictroides and Adiantum poiretii are regarded as two different species. Their distinctive characteristics are pointed out and their geographical distribution is established. After a careful comparison with two isotypes, it is confirmed that the species of Vittoria present in Ethiopia is Vittoria volkensii.

Le specie etiopiche appartenenti alle PARKERIACEAE, ADIANTACEAE, e VITTARIACEAE sono 7, precisamente, Ceratopteris thalictroides (L.), Ad. Brongn. (PARKERIACEAE), Adiantum balfourii Bak., Adiantum philippense L., Adiantum incisum Forssk., Adiantum capillus-veneris L., Adiantum thalictroides Willd. ex Schlecht. (ADIANTACEAE) and Vittoria volkensii Hieron. (VITTARIACEAE).

PARKERIACEAE, ADIANTACEAE e VITTARIACEAE sono riconosciute come famiglie indipendenti. Vengono messe in evidenza le loro caratteristiche distintive e viene discussa la loro affinità con altre famiglie di felci.

Le ricerche sulla tassonomia e nomenclatura delle specie ha fornito interessanti risultati. Il tipo di Ceratopteris thalictroides è l'esemplare montato sul foglio IL. 42 del voi. 3 dell'erbario di HERMANN (BM), mentre quello di Ceratopteris siliquosa è montato sul foglio n. 59 del voi. 2 dello stesso erbario. Il primo è il nome corretto per questa specie. Viene stabilito il luogo di pubblicazione di Adiantum balfourii e confermato che Adiantum martinii è un suo sinonimo. Adiantum incisum è considerato come una specie indipendente da Adiantum caudatum con il quale è stato fino ad oggi confuso. Vengono studiate altre specie dello stesso gruppo. Adiantum capillus-gorgonis è considerato come un sinonimo di Adiantum incisum; Adiantum hirsutum è trattato come una specie indipendente. Sono anche presi in considerazione. Adiantum ciliatum, Adiantum zollingerii, Adiantum flagellijerum ed Adiantum proliferum. ma essi richiedono ulteriori studi. Viene discussa la tipificazione di Adiantum capillus-veneris giungendo alla conclusione che il tipo di questa specie è l'esemplare 1252.9 dell'erbario Linneano di Londra. In base allo studio di materiale originale Adiantum thalictroides e Adiantum poiretii vengono considerati come due specie differenti; le caratteristiche distintive di esse sono messe in evidenza ed è stabilita la distribuzione geografica delle due specie. In base al confronto con due isotipi viene confermato che la specie di Vittaria presente in Etiopia è Vittaria volkensii.
