As first contribution to the bryoflora of the Madonie Mountains, at wich the authors have been working since 1974, the list of a part of the mosses and of the liverworts, collected in the foresaid territory is reported. The list, up to dated according to the most recent nomenclature, includes 190 infrageneric taxa excluded the forms. There are 45 liverworts, divided into 34 genera and 27 families and 145 mosses, divided into 68 genera and 24 families.

Twenty-two taxa are indicated for the first time in Sicily, while four result new also for the Italian bryoflora. Some of them have remarkable phytogeographical interest because they prove the actual influence of the glacial phenomenon in Sicily.
