The presence of Chamaerops humilis in Liguria is reported for the first time: this species has been discovered in three stations on the south side of Portofino promontory.

After a short description of the stations, together with a list of the species found there, accounts of the geographical distribution and the ecological and sociological features of Chamaerops humilis are given.

It is not possible, however, to explain with certainty how this species got here: we can suppose either some seeds were scattered by animals or these plants are relicts. At present Chamaerops humilis grows on Portofino promontory in plant communities which have to be considered as fragments of vegetation that can be referred to Oleo-Ceratonion.
