Summary

The new species Cynoglossum barbaricinum Arrigoni & Selvi (Boraginaceae) is described from Sardinia (Italy). This species is discontinuously distributed on the mountains in the central and eastern part of the island, mainly the siliceous massif of Gennargentu, while its occurrence on Corsica is still to be confirmed. C. barbaricinum is more closely related to C. officinale, from which it differs by the the sparser pubescence, the more robust habit and taller size, the richly branched stem with wider cauline leaves, the corolla with a shorter tube, and the shorter glochids on the dorsal fruit surface. It is distinguished from C. montanum by the more robust habit and more strongly branched stem, the larger leaves and especially the nutlets with a flat dorsal surface with a thin marginal rim.
