Abstract
Study of the Tasmanian mollusca reveals Severa1 aspects of species constitution of affinity, and ecology, which seem to support the conclusions of other workers dealing with general ecology and with reiationships. Thus the mollusca are part of an ecological unit, the basis of which is ecological rather than, faunal, with affinities for areas of similar latitude probably discernible. The mollusca are also , in general, part of a southern Australia faunal entity extending to New South wales and south Western Austra1ia. yet with individuality, and even a little Neozelanic affinitY. Available eviedence suggests, however, that the Tasmanian fauna is. for the most part, disinct from that of tropical Australia.
