Summary
Camaenid land snails do share some derived anatomical features and the family should not be characterised in negative terms. The genus-name Thersites was formerly employed for a large number of Australian camaenids but should be restricted to include only T mitchellae (Cox), T. novaehollandiae (Gray) and T. richmonaiana (Reeve), Thersites is characterised by the possession of granular shell sculpture, a dorsal cream coloured line on the neck, a curious bend in duct of the bursa copulatrix and a large imperforate conical papilla in the penis.
