On the Use of Natural Convection Flow for Solar Pumping

Pages 173-182 | Published online: 16 May 2007

Abstract

Plastic green houses are now widely used in the Middle East. These houses are made of transparent materials and the interior air temperature is higher than the ambient temperature because of the solar irradiation. This temperature difference causes natural convection flows. For a typical green house, the resulting usable power is about 200 W. Two pumping systems are considered that can utilize this power for pumping underground water for irrigation purposes.
