Abstract
The authors were presented with a rare opportunity to study rumor during a supposed plant closing. The authors provide some insight into this type research.

Mr. Beaver (B.S., State University College at Brockport) is a Graduate Assistant and Mr. Jandt (Ph.D., Bowling Green State University) is Associate Professor, both in the Department of Speech Communication, State University College at Brockport, NY. This is a revised and expanded version of a paper entitled, “A Study of Alienation and Anxiety Following an Industrial Plant Closing: A Personal and Preliminary Report” scheduled to have been presented to the 1972 International Communication Association Student Summer Conference by Claude D. Beaver and James P. Maher.
