Physiological Benefits of Warm-Up

Pages 134-139 | Published online: 11 Jul 2016

Abstract

In brief: Warm-up generates an increase in body temperature that may benefit overall physical performance. Three basic types of warm-up may be used to prepare for strenuous activity: passive, general, and specific. The best of these is specific warm-up, which not only increases the temperature of the body parts involved in the activity but also provides a rehearsal of the event that is to take place.
