Thigh Compartment Syndrome

A Limb-Threatening Emergency

Abstract

In brief Acute thigh compartment syndrome is a rare but limb-threatening condition that can result when an athlete sustains a thigh contusion. Early diagnosis is imperative; cardinal findings Include pain, thigh distension, decreased knee range of motion, neurovascular impairment, and elevated compartment pressures. Treatment consists of surgical decompression. An early rehabilitation program can restore range of motion, mobility, and sports skills.
