Abstract

A facile one-step synthesis of hollow polydiphenylamine (PDPA) has been developed by polymerizing diphenylamine in the presence of chitosan as the stabilizer and ammonium peroxydisulfate (APS) as the initiator. In the synthetic process, a chitosan-stabilized PDPA layer was formed around an Ag2SO4 core, produced by the reaction between AgNO3 and APS, which on washing with water generated hollow PDPA. Transmission electron microscopy was used to characterize the hollow PDPA. Further support for the formation of hollow spheres has been obtained by single-stage thermal degradation in thermo gravimetric analysis and XRD, IR, and NMR analyses.
