Polymeric nanoblends compatibilization: a strategic design to enhance the effectiveness of nanocarriers for biomedical applications

Abstract

Nanostructured polymer blends exhibit better properties over bulk polymeric blends and their homopolymers since several properties, such as stability, tensile strength, ductility, transparency, creep, and solvent resistance and others, can be improved. Usually, blends exhibit phase-separation into macroscopic domains, resulting in poor mechanical properties and consequently affecting its applicability. This review presents a brief overview of compatibilization of nanoblends, highlighting the influence of the compatibilization of block copolymers (BCPs) for obtaining new materials with superior tailored properties. In addition, nanoblended systems may be a potential strategy to achieve enhanced local or systemic drug delivery.
