Cyanoacrylate-encapsulated calcium peroxide achieved oxygen-sustained release and promoted wound healing

Abstract

Sustained oxygen release is important to many oxygen-requiring situations. Developing composite materials capable of releasing oxygen in diverse circumstances have potential use in aquaculture, environmental remediation, and wound healing, et al. In this study, a composite material poly-11-CaO2 was developed by encapsulation of calcium peroxide in a biodegradable crosslinking cyanoacrylate (poly-LKJ11). CaO2 physically dispersed inside the polymer depot. Poly-11-CaO2 achieved sustained oxygen release in water environment, that the DO concentration of water could be increased for more than 25 days in a N2 bubbled bottle model. Poly-11-CaO2 could also release oxygen on skin surface, thereafter, a poly-11-CaO2 contained plaster improved dermal wound healing in a rat model.
