The derived subgroup of a group with commutators of bounded order can be non-periodic

Abstract

We prove that for every positive integer k there is N = N(k) such that for every odd n > N there exists a group G satisfying the identity

whose derived subgroup G' is non-periodic. This solves a problem posed by V.D.Mazurov.
