Abstract
The syntheses of chloro, bromo, and mixed chloro-bromo metallate complexes of a variety of transition metals [Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Cd(II), Pt(II), Au(III), Hg(II)] as their phosphonium salts are described. The phosphonium ions employed included [(RCO) (R′CO) CH (CH2)2P(C6H5)3]+ (R= R′=\pi; R=CH3, R′=\pi), [RCOCH2PR3′]+ (R=R′=\pi; R=\pi, R′=n-butyl; R=CH3, R′=\pi; R= CH3, R′=n-butyl), and [NCCH2P(C6H5)3]+. The functioning of the phosphonium ions as non-coordinated counterions is supported by conductivity, near and far infrared, visible-ultraviolet, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance data.
