Abstract

The oxidations of fac-M (CO)3 (CH3CN)3 (M = Mo, W) or fac-Re (CO) 3X (CH3CN)2 (X = Cl, Br) by chlorine or bromine afford convenient, high yield, syntheses of MoCl4 (CH3CN)2, MoBr3 (CH3CN)3, WX4 (CH3CN)2 and ReX4 (CH3CN)2 (X = Cl, Br).
