Alternate Preparations of Pentakis (trimethylphosphite)cobalt(I) Tetrafluoroborate and Tris(ρ-chlorophenylisocyanide)bis(trimethylphosphite)cobalt(I) Tetrafluoroborate

Abstract

Pentakis (trimethylphosphite) cobalt (I) tetrafluoroborate can be prepared by reduction of Co(BF₄)₂ 6H₂O in ethanol with NaBH₄ or N₂H₄ in the presence of five moles phosphite. The [Co(CNC₆H₄Cl-p) ₃ {P(OCH₃)₃}₅]BF₄ prepared by para-chlorophenylisocyanide substitution in [Co{P(OCH₃)₃}5] BF₄, in 3:1 molar ratio and deficient or excess amounts of isocyanide, is the same compound as that prepared by trimethylphosphite substitution in [Co(CNC₆H₄Cl-p)₅]BF₄.
