Dioxouranium(VI) Complexes with a Ter-Dentate Schiff Base Behaving as a Bi-Dentate Ligand

Abstract

The reactions of UO₂X₂ (X = Cl, I, NCS, NO₃, 0.5 SO₄, ClO₄) with the potential ter-dentate Schiff base ligand (L), derived from the condensation of 2-amino 4-methyl pyridine with salicylaldehyde yield yellow or orange 1:2 solid complexes, all of which are non-electrolytes in C₆H₅NO₂ or CH₃NO₂. This ter-dentate ligand behaves essentially as a bidentate one and the coordination number of uranium (VI) is 8 in all cases.
