Abstract
The title compound was prepared in good yield and purity by UV irradiation of a benzene solution of molybdenum hexacarbonyl and hexafluoroacetylacetone in the strict absence of oxygen. After washing the recovered product with petroleum ether it was purified by repeated sublimation. The final very dark colored crystalline product has a melting point of 105–106°C. The magnetic susceptibility (μeff 3.79 at 296°K) and electronic spectra correspond to those expected for a CN6 high spin species.
