Abstract
Square planar nickel (II) complexes of unsymmetrical tetradentate azomethines having the general formula, (-OC10H6CH:NXN:C(R)C6H4O-)Ni (where R=H or CH3 and X= -(CH2)3-, -(CH2)6 - or -o-C6H4 -) have been synthesized by the reactions of diamines such as 1,3-propane-diamine, 1,6-hexanediamine or o-phenylenediamine with the mixed complexes of the type NILL' (where LH is 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldimine and L'H is salicylaldimine or o-hydroxyacetophenonimine). Reactions of the diamines with the mixed complex (salicylaldehydato) (o-hydroxy-acetophenonato)nickel (II) have also resulted in the formation of similar complexes, (-OC6H4CH=NXN=C(CH3)C6H4O-)Ni. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, TLC, conductance, IR and UV spectra and possible structures have been indicated.
