Abstract
Alkyl xanthates of diorganotin(IV) of the types R2 Sn[SC(S)OR]2 and [R1O(S)CS]Bu2Sn-O-SnBu2[SC(S)OR1] (R = Et, Bun, Ph; R1 = Me, Et, Pri, Bun) have been prepared by the reaction of potassium alkyl xanthates with diorganotin(IV) dichlorides and 1,3-dichorotetrabutyl distannoxane in non-aqueous media. These compounds have been characterised by elemental and spectral analysis, as well as by molecular weight determination in benzene in which they show monomeric behaviour. IR and PMR spectral studies of these compounds snow the bidentate behaviour of xanthate moiety. A study has been made of the thermal decomposition of diorganotin(IV) derivatives to the corresponding sulfides.
