Abstract
Reactions of niobium pentaethoxide with halo-substituted βdiketones as well as 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone were carried out in refluxing benzene in different molar ratios. Compounds of the type [Nb(OEt)5-n(L)n], (where L = p-fluoro, p-chloro-and p-bromo-benzoylacetone as well as 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone and n = 1, 2 or 3) have been isolated and characterised by elemental analysis, molecular weight determination and spectral studies like i. r. and n. m. r. Alcoholysis reactions with tert-butanol were also carried out.
