Abstract

Magnesium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and zinc salts of hydrazidocarboxylate have been prepared by the reaction of respective metal ions with hydrazinium hydrazidocarboxy late, N2H5COON2H3. Magnesium and manganese form dihydrated salts, M(N2H3COO)2.2H2O. Iron and cobalt form bishydrazine complexes, M(N2H3COO)2(N2H4)2. Nickel and zinc yield N2H5[M(N2H3COO)3].H2O. Infrared spectra and the thermal decomposition of these complexes were investigated.

The iron, cobalt and nickel complexes exhibited autocatalytic decomposition once ignited to yield magnetic oxides. These salts may be of interest as precursors to metal and metal oxide dispersions.
