Abstract
This article describes some complexes of Co(II) with 5,7-dichloro-8-aminoquinoline (dcaq), 5,7-dibromo-8-amino-quinoline (dbaq) and 5,7-diiodo-8-aminoquinoline (diaq). The compounds are of the stoichiometry CoCl2L, CoBr2L2, CoI2L2, Co(NO3)2L2 (where L = dcaq or dbaq). Only one complexe has been prepared with diaq, namely CoI2(diaq)2. The elemental analysis are in agree with the formulae, proposed. The i.r. spectra of compounds containing NO3 show the presence of ionic and bridging nitrato groups. The electronic spectra and magnetic moments at room temperature are consistent with distorted octahedral geometry around the Co(II) for some of the complexes. We propose polymeric structures with bridging NO3 and CI for the compounds Co(NO3)2(ligand)2 where (ligand = dcaq, dbaq) and CoCl2(ligand) where (ligand = dcaq, dbaq). Monomeric octahedral structures are proposed for the other compounds.
