Synthesis and Characterisation of Some Arylmercury Trifluoroacetates

Abstract

The preparation of some arylmercury trifluoro-acetates of the formulae RHgOCOCF₃ (R=C₆H₅-, 4-CH₃C₆H₄-, 4-CH₃OC₆H₄-, 4-ClC₆H₄-, 2-HOOCC₆H₄-, 3,4-(CH₃)₂C₆H₃-, 2-Cl,4-CH₃C₆H₃- or 4-C₆H₅C₆H₄-) is reported. The newly synthesised compounds have been characterised by elemental analysis, molar conductance, molecular weight, I.R., U.V. and ¹H NMR data. The position of substitution of the H atom of the aromatic ring by -HgOCOCF₃ has been established by the cleavage of the Hg-C bond with molecular iodine. The trifluoroacetate group in the compounds is unidentate both in the solid and solution states.
