Abstract
The synthesis and properties of Cu(II) ternary complexes of formulae [Cu(CM)L2]2H2O, [Cu(CM)2L]L 2H2O, [Cu(CM)2L]ClO4 1.5H2O, [Cu2(CM)L(OH)3] and [Cu2(CM)2L(OH)3]2H2O (CM = Cimetidine = N-Cyano-N′-methyl-N″ [2- (5-methyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)methylthio]ethyl]guanidine; HL = Phenobarbital = 5-ethyl-5-phenyl-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)pyrimidinetrione) are reported. All the complexes are non-electrolytes in N,N-dimethyl-formamide and dimethyl-sulfoxide solutions. Magnetic, electronic, EPR and IR structral information suggest CM and L bonding to Cu(II) ion in a tetragonal-octahedral stereochemistry.
