Abstract
Twenty copper(II) chelate compounds were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic moments, infrared, and UV-visible spectra. The general formulation CuLX2 obtains when X = Cl−, Br−, NO3 −, and ClO4 −, but Cu2LX2 appears to obtain when X = SO4. The 1igands (L) used include 1,8-diamino-3,6-dithiaoctane, 1,8-bis(2-pyridyl)-3,6-dithiaoctane, 4-methyl-1,8-bis(2-pyridyl)-3,6-dithiaoctane and 1,9-bis(2-pyridyl)-3,7-dithianonane. Variation of anions, ligand chelate ring size, and obligatory steric bulk is discussed in relation to the complexes physical properties and stereodynamics.
