Abstract
A series of triphenylantimony(V) derivatives of tribromo-, trichloro-, and pentachlorophenols and of bisphenols, viz., 2,2-bis,(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)sulfone, have been prepared and characterized by elementail analysis, conductance, molecular weight, infrared (IR) and proton magnetic resonance (PMR) spectroscopy, and thermal studies. IR studies reveal that all compounds have trigonal bipyramidal structure. A two step thermal decomposition was observed in these compounds in both nitrogen and air atmosphere leading to the formation of Sb metal (in nitrogen) and Sb2O3 (in air).
